Thruxton Race Course
3200m2 skid pan
Co-ordinate all stages of industrial flooring project to specification & deadline (2 pours).
Nationwide Concreting undertook this project for C.J.Lee at Thruxton race course. The project was for a brand new 3200m2 skid pan. The project took two pours to complete using our laser screed to achieve the high tolerance needed for the skid pan.
The finish and the tolerances were the most important aspect of this project, we started the job by laying polythene around the perimeter of the slab followed by spacers and A142 mesh, as the area was poured utilising the laser screed we backed Lorries in with no need for a concrete pump.
- Following the installation of the polythene, spacers were positioned to maintain the correct distance between the base and the reinforcement mesh. This was crucial for achieving the required structural integrity.
- A142 mesh was then laid over the spacers. This steel reinforcement mesh provided additional strength to the concrete, ensuring it could withstand the stresses and strains of automotive testing.
- The concrete was poured in two stages, with each pour covering a substantial portion of the 3200m2 area. The decision to complete the project in two stages allowed for better control over the quality and precision of the work.
- Nationwide Concreting utilised their advanced laser screed equipment during the pouring process. The laser screed technology ensured that the concrete surface was perfectly level, meeting the high tolerance specifications required for a skid pan.
- To facilitate the pouring process, concrete was delivered directly to the site using Lorries. The strategic backing of Lorries into the site eliminated the need for a concrete pump, streamlining the process and reducing potential complications.
- As the concrete was poured, it was evenly spread and leveled using the laser screed. This equipment provided unparalleled precision, resulting in a smooth and uniform surface ideal for skid pan applications.
The project was completed successfully, with the skid pan meeting all specified tolerances and quality standards. The precise, flat surface of the skid pan now serves as a reliable area for automotive testing and driver training at Thruxton Race Course.
C.J. Lee expressed high satisfaction with the work performed by Nationwide Concreting. The use of advanced technology, coupled with meticulous planning and execution, resulted in a skid pan that exceeded expectations in terms of quality and functionality.
