Cheese Maturation Facility
Shepton Mallet, Somerset
3000m2, Concrete Pump Discharge & Hand Screed installed – 2 Days.
Co-ordinate all stages of industrial flooring project to specification & deadline.
Nationwide Concreting were asked to undertake a concrete floor installation for the Cheese Maturation Facility in Shepton Mallet, Somerset.
From the initial stages, meticulous design in-put and planning of the entire concrete floor installation operation was required to ensure the high specification expected from the entire project team was achieved.
The project was run to a very tight schedule and each phase was closely followed by the next as the site remained a fully functioning production plant throughout the construction of the new floor.
The design of the concrete floor slab dictated that the floor be installed by hand screed concrete technique with concrete discharged via a concrete pump. As the site was in a rural location with narrow country roads, it was essential that concrete deliveries were monitored very closely to ensure there was not a build up of trucks waiting to discharge and likewise that there were no delays.
The floor was constructed with 2 layers of A252 mesh reinforcement on a 1200 gauge slip membrane and finished to an FM2 tolerance in accordance with TR34 (2003 Edition). The surface of the floor was finished to a highly polished smooth and durable Power Float finish.
Due to the nature of this floor, the proximity of other trades and the continued running of the production plant, PPE and site safety/awareness was paramount. Cleanliness and general site housekeeping was also of great importance and our operatives ensured that a scrupulously clean site was presented at all times.
The concrete floor was installed over two days, plus an initial level survey of pre-installed sub-base, setting up of membrane and concrete reinforcement, followed by induction of the sawn joints.
This project highlights the attention to detail & the quality of the rapport between our operatives and the site team.
