Back Tips for looking after your concrete floor

No flooring type is maintenance free – and although concrete floors require less maintenance than other types of floors, they do require some attention.

Here are some tips on how to keep your concrete floor looking as good as new for years to come.

Maintain its shine

Cleaning your concrete floors regularly, paying close attention to particularly busy areas will help to keep dust and other debris at bay. Left untreated, the dust and dirt will build up a layer which gives the appearance of a matte finish rather than a polished concrete floor.

Prevent damage

Regularly cleaning your concrete floor will help to remove debris before it can cause damage. It may seem as though the floors are relatively clean, but it doesn’t take long for small particles to create what’s known as the sandpaper effect which slowly ruins the finish and causes the concrete floor to lose its smooth appearance.

Limit seepage

Cleaning up spillages immediately, particularly oil and grease, will help to limit the amount of seepage into the porous surface. Leaving spillages for long periods of time will only make it harder to clean and could potentially leave a stain on your concrete floor.

Right tools and products

No amount of cleaning effort will be enough if you’re not using the right tools and equipment and using the wrong products could do more harm than good. If cleaning manually, choose a pH neutral cleaning agent and if automatic floor scrubbers are used, ensure the pads are soft and non-abrasive.
