We’ve put together a guide to our concrete finishing services, including the equipment we use and the different finishes we can deliver.
Our concrete finishers will make sure your concrete floor is installed correctly and free from defects. They are responsible for levelling, compacting and protecting freshly poured concrete flooring as it cures while making sure that it has the optimum pitch and depth required.
Wet concrete is placed using rakes, shovels and sometimes a dedicated tool called a straightedge, which is operated in a back-and-forth motion to level the freshly laid concrete.
We then use high-powered Vibro-Strike vibrating concrete screed units to compact the wet concrete to a depth of 200mm through a 1.8m wide oscillating screeding plate.
To achieve a partially flat and even surface, we then pan the entire area of the floor slabs two or three times with a power float (we use the Whiteman HTN Series Power Trowel fitted with circular steel panning discs).
Finally, we refine and complete the concrete finishing process with several passes of the power float’s steel finishing blades.
Nationwide Concreting’s team of concrete contractors provide a variety of different concrete finishes, including tamped, brush and dust topping to power-floated floors.
A tamped finish is created by imprinting the fresh concrete with a wooden tamping beam. This finish is commonly used for walkways and areas such as farmyards.
This is achieved by pulling a wire concrete brush over the surface of freshly levelled concrete. Brush finish is recommended for large outdoor car parks and transport yards, as its texture has outstanding non-slip properties.
For industrial concrete floors, premixed powders are often used to provide greater abrasion resistance or even to create different colours. The dust is applied using a topping spreader shortly before the power-float process begins. The dust topping creates a smooth, shiny and stylish concrete finish, making it perfect for retail or warehouse environments.
To allow us to deliver concrete floors that are finished to perfection, we’ve invested in state-of-the-art technology. Our laser screed machines are the best in the industry, quickly and efficiently compacting the concrete while constantly monitoring the height of the levelling head using laser technology.
We’re proud to use the Somero S-22EZ, renowned for being the most technologically advanced laser screed machine in the world.
