Back A guide to choosing the perfect concrete floor finish

Did you know that as part of the concrete flooring installation process, you can choose from a range of different finishes depending on your needs? Whichever one you choose, applying a finish to concrete flooring requires a lot of knowledge and skill, so be sure to hire a professional. At Nationwide Concrete Ltd, our team have over 40 years of combined experience and have perfected their techniques to ensure a flawless finish. Read on for our guide to choosing the right finish for your business.

Brush concrete finish

Brushed concrete is created by dragging the head of a brush over a fresh concrete floor, leaving a pattern of parallel lines. These lines can be of various depths depending on the type and hardness of the bristles used.

  • Reduces the risk of slipping and improves drainage - good for surfaces that often get wet like garden centres or outdoor yards.
  • Improves traction for vehicles
  • Requires minimal maintenance

Tamped concrete finish

Resulting in a rough surface of horizonal grooves, a tamped finish is achieved by compacting the concrete by moving a tamping beam quickly across the surface. It is important to get this process right as it can easily result in an uneven and therefore dangerous surface.

  • Highly anti-slip due to the grooves – great for inclines
  • The grooves also provide excellent drainage and help avoid water pooling
  • A popular choice for outdoor areas with a high level of traffic

Power floated concrete finish

To make power float concrete, a purpose-built machine uses rotating blades to buff the surface of the concrete floor to achieve a highly polished finish.

  • Reduces the risk of plastic shrinkage and cracking
  • It is waterproof so spillages are easy to clear up
  • Incredibly hard-wearing so perfect for industrial use
  • Attractive, high-shine finish

Laser screed concrete finish

Laser screed machines are state-of-the-art technology in the concrete business and help ensure a perfectly level finish is achieved in the fastest and most effective way possible.

  • The most level finish of all options available
  • Good for warehouses, factories and other large flooring areas
