The concrete finishing process

We use high-powered Vibro-Strike vibrating concrete screed units to compact wet concrete to a depth of 200mm through a 1.8m wide oscillating screeding plate. Additionally, our power floats of choice are the Whiteman HTN Series Power Trowel fitted with circular steel panning discs and we pan the entire area of the floor slabs 2 or 3 times to achieve a partially flat and even surface, before refining and completing the concrete finishing process with several passes of its steel finishing blades.

Health & Safety considerations are paramount to us. All concrete flooring operatives are required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as laid out in our comprehensive method statements, as well as holding CSCS cards and being fully-trained in on-site safety regulations and protocols.

Our strengths are our skilled workforce of concrete finishers, our close attention to detail and our ability to efficiently co-ordinate the logistics of all aspects of a concrete finishing project.

We have proven we are more than capable of taking on almost any industrial concrete flooring project regardless of size and working to tight deadlines to deliver the quality of concrete finishing required by our many clients, including floors for leading supermarket chains, national developers and commercial contractors across the UK.

Yes, we offer many different types of concrete finish for our customers. They include tamped finish, brush finish, dust topped and power-floated concrete floors. Contact our experts to find out more information about our concrete finishing options.

Power floating is a popular concrete finishing option for warehouses, as it provides an attractive yet highly durable and level surface that is able to easily handle the weight of heavy machinery and footfall.

Whist concrete flooring can have a higher initial cost than alternative flooring options, it can last much longer - in some cases up to 100 years. This means that you won't have to worry about replacement or repairs nearly as often, making it ultimately more cost-effective.

Our experts recommend leaving concrete flooring for at least a week after installation to ensure it has reached sufficient strength, but if you are still unsure, why not talk to a member of our qualified team on 01590 676 585.

A tamped concrete finish uses a tamping beam moved up and down across in quick succession across the surface of the concrete in order to create a ridged surface. The non-slip surface created using this concrete finishing method is popular for outdoor areas, including walkways and farmyards.

A brushed concrete finish is most popular in external car parks or transport yards due to its non-slip texture. A brushed concrete finish is achieved by pulling a wire concrete brush over the surface of fresh concrete.

Concrete dry shake topping, also known as dry shake hardener or dry shake floor topping, is a method used to improve the surface properties of freshly placed concrete. It involves the application of a dry mixture onto the concrete surface before it fully hardens.

The dry shake topping consists of a blend of cement, aggregates, pigments, and sometimes admixtures. It is typically applied by evenly broadcasting the mixture over the concrete surface and then working it into the surface using a float or power trowel.

The dry shake topping forms a thin layer on the concrete, which bonds with the surface to create a durable and aesthetically pleasing finish.

Power floating, also known as power trowelling, is a method used in concrete finishing to achieve a smooth, level, and durable surface. It involves the use of a power-driven machine equipped with rotating blades or pans called power trowels.

The power trowel consists of one or more blades or pans that are mounted on a rotating arm. The machine is operated by a person who guides the trowel over the surface of the freshly poured concrete. As the trowel rotates, it creates a high-speed polishing action that helps to compact and smooth the concrete.
