Co-ordinate all stages of an industrial flooring project to specification and deadline
Nationwide concreting were asked to undertake a concrete floor installation for a new Premier Inn at Brewery Square, Dorchester, supplying all labour (16 operatives) and plant to create concrete floor slabs measuring approximately 4880m2.
There was no mesh reinforcement in this concrete floor, instead we used steel fibres which were added to the concrete lorries at the plant using our blast pin machine. We used 30kg of 40/50 steel fibres per m3 also adding super plasticiser to the concrete. The blast machine operator proceeds to add the required super plasticiser and fibres whilst the drum is in fast mixing mode. After 4 minutes another visual check of the slump is made and adjusted if necessary. Full mixing must be carried out again if further super plasticiser is added.
Nationwide also took concrete cubes during these applications at Dorchester; the method we used is as follows – one operative took a certain amount of concrete from the concrete lorry as the lorry dispatched into the concrete pumps hopper, he then took his ready oiled concrete cube moulds and fill the moulds half way, then he takes his tamping bar and tamps all three cube moulds 25 times each cube he then repeats this process again to fill the moulds, he trowels the cubes off to a smooth finish and writes down the date time the concrete was taken and what time he cast the cubes he then covers with hessian and leaves until they are taken from the moulds & submerged in water for the curing process to begin before testing.
